Recorded Music Summer High School 2012: Best Studio In NYC ...

During the program, we visited Germano studios, Sterling mastering studios and Jungle City studios. Sterling was a very high-tech mastering studio, each room had different custom speakers and the room was built on springs to increase sound quality. We tested this by making everyone jump at the same time resulting in the room wobbling ! We saw original tape machines and tapes by famous rock bands. Also we saw the studio where most of Jay-Z's albums were mastered and the one where they mastered Drake's recent album.

Germano on the other hand was a recording studio; it's clientele includes Jay-Z, N.E.R.D., Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, 50 cent, Grizzly Bear and many others. The custom made speakers in studio 1 were the most insane speakers out of all the studios. The studio was discrete and homy; the elevator was tiny and there were no signs in the street saying Germano. It was a little bit too dark in there though and the rooms were rather small.

Finally my favorite studio was Jungle City. It was created by a woman called Ann Mincieli who is also Alicia Keys' sound engineer. The studio was next to the high-line near Chelsea. The first floor had two studios with custom made mixing boards, custom speakers and booths to record mainly vocals but there was room for drums. The fabric on the walls were designed by Louis Vuitton and are color coded with speakers and the other walls. There were also lounges and a balcony. The second floor included a large engineering room with couches, huge custom made speakers, a mixing board and the wall fabric was also designed by Louis Vuitton. The recording room had a beautiful piano and a very wide window which offered great view of New York. The view and the light made this studio special compared to others which are constantly in the darkness. Their clientele included Beyonce, Kanye West, Big Sean, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Depeche Mode and even Morgan Freeman!!

All amazing places but I preferred Jungle Studios because it had the feel of a 5 star hotel as well as a recording studio.
