OMONA THEY DIDN'T! Endless charms, endless possibilities - PSY ...

PSY‘s “Gangnam Style” music video was the first ever video to hit one billion hits on YouTube. PSY earned an estimated $1,950,000 USD from his music video that went viral.

To-date, PSY’s “Gangnam Style” music video has garnered over one billion views on YouTube. Every 1,000 views on the video earns two dollars.

You Tube has emerged as the new site of choice for teenagers wanting to listen to music. According to a Nielsen study, artists now use You Tube as a new income-generator. The article also reveals, “Adding to PSY’s income, he also made $3,960,000 from downloads and $50,000 from music replays. In total, he has earned $6,000,000 from YouTube alone.

[OP note: billboard clears this up via nielsen soundscan data... the downloads and replays are on other platforms, not yt]

At the beginning, the Billboard website stated that they were not expecting that PSY’s music video would pass the one billion viewer mark. However, after surpassing Justin Bieber‘s “Baby” viewer records, it became the most watched video on You Tube.

PSY’s mega-hit reached this unprecedented milestone just 27 days after surpassing Justin Bieber‘s “Baby.”

In the days after its breaking the 803 million YouTube record, “Gangnam Style” continued to generate over 6.5 million hit per day.

amazed that the viewcount is still going up so dramatically: 76 view per second... and $2 per thousand views, not sure if i knew that

here's a press release from nielsen on their Music 360 report (the "study" mentioned above). a little confused by the implication that yt downloads made him nearly $4MM but i haven't read the report. here's the billboard article Soompi seems to be citing.
