The death of a photographer (paparazzi) trying to get a picture of Justin Bieber has sparked debate for the need for tightened legislation restraining the activities of one of Hollywood’s most infamous group.
According to reports, the photographer had been trying to get shots of Bieber’s Ferrari which had been pulled over for a routine traffic stop. He was unfortunately hit by another car on his way back to his car.
In a statement, Bieber addressing the legislation issue said, “Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves”.
Following the ordeal Arnold Schwarzenegger and his family faced in 1998 when they were boxed in their car by a paparazzo and the death of Princess Diana trying to escape the paparazzi. A year later after the Arnold incident, the State of California Legislature passed its first anti-paparazzi imposing severe civil penalties on people who are found guilty of invading the privacy of celebrities.
6 months earlier, another paparazzo was charged with reckless driving after engaging in pursuit of Justin Bieber trying to get a photo of him. He is the first paparazzo to have faced the grunt of the 201o California law advocating increased penalties against paparazzo’s for reckless driving.
A judge later dismissed the charges.
