Justin Bieber has issued a second apology following the racism allegations he is current involved in.
This week saw two separate videos of the pop star leak online, filmed while he was aged 14 during the making of his documentary movie Never Say Never, and showing him making racist jokes and using the N-word.
The Confident singer has already apologized for the first clip, which emerged on June 1. But he shocked fans again yesterday (June 4) when a second video surfaced, showing the then-teen changing the lyrics to his hit song One Less Lonely Girl to joke about killing black people and joining race-hate group Ku Klax Klan.
Hours after the footage appeared, Bieber has now released a written apology where he admits he needs to “step up and own what I did.”
The 20-year-old told British newspaper The Sun: “Facing my mistakes from years ago has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever dealt with. But I feel now that I need to take responsibility for those mistakes and not let them linger.”
“I just hope that the next 14-year-old kid who doesn’t understand the power of these words does not make the same mistakes I made years ago,” Justin said. “At the end of the day I just need to step up and own what I did.
“Once again, I am sorry for all those I have let down and offended.”
The singer’s manager Scooter Braun appeared to comment on the scandal with a cryptic post on Instagram, in which he quoted: “Some mistakes have no excuses. They are just wrong. But how a man reacts to those mistakes… How he owns it and learns from it… That defines him more than the mistake itself.”
As well as the written apology, Justin also posted a photo of Bible verses on Instagram taken from Sarah Young’s 2004 book Jesus Calling, which focus on forgiveness:
